Notions
3 mm/US #2.5 circular needles (40 cm/16”)
4 mm/US #6 DPNs or circular needles (30, 40 cm/12, 16”)
1 stitch marker
Tapestry needle


Gauge:
22 sts per 4 inches in stockinette stitch on 4 mm/US#6 needles or size to obtain gauge

Pattern Instructions


Brim:
Using CC1 and smaller needles (3 mm/ US #2.5) cast on 80 (88, 94, 100) sts.
Place marker and join for knitting in the round.
Be careful not to twist the stitches.
Rnd 1: purl
Rnd2: knit
Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 for 2 (2, 3, 3) more times. Then repeat Rnd 1 only.
Hat’s Body:
Change to bigger sized needles (4 mm/US#6) and CC2 or MC.
Knit for 2 rnds.
Next Rnd (increase rnd): knit and evenly increase via M1R by 8 (8, 10, 12) sts.
You should have 88 (96, 104, 112) sts on the needles.
Knit for 3 more rnds.
You will be working on Diamond Lace Section next.
Diamond Lace Section:
Change to CC1
Knit for 1 rnd, and then purl for 1 rnd.
Diamond Lace is worked over a multiple of 8 sts.

Rnd 1: *k4, yo, skp, k2*, repeat * till the end
Rnds 2, 4, 6, 8: knit
Rnd 3: *k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skp, k1*, repeat * till the end
Rnd 5: *k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, skp*, repeat* till the end
Rnd 7: *k3, yo, sk2p, yo, k2*, repeat * till the end
Rnd 9: *k4, yo, skp, k2*, repeat * till the end
Knit for 1 rnd, then purl for 1 rnd.

Diamond Lace Chart



Change to MC.
Knit for 1 rnds.
Next rnd: knit and evenly decrease (as k2tog) or increase (as M1R) as given for your size by +2 (+4, -4, -2) sts.
Note: increase is marked as + and decrease is marked as - .
You should have 90 (100, 100, 110) sts.

Continue working in stockinette stitch till the work measures 12.5 (14, 15, 16.5) cm or 5 (5.5, 6, 6.5) inches from the cast on edge.

Crown shaping
Rnd 1: *skp, k6, k2tog* repeat to the end of the round. Total 72 (80, 80, 88) sts.
Rnd 2-5: knit
Rnd 6: *skp, k4, k2tog* repeat to the end of the round. Total 54 (60, 60, 66) sts.
Rnd 7-9: knit
Rnd 10: *skp, k2, k2tog* repeat to the end of the round. Total 36 (40, 40, 44) sts.
Rnd 11-12: knit
Rnd 13: *skp, k2tog* repeat to the end of the round. 18 (20, 20, 22) sts.
Rnd 14: knit
Rnd 15: *k2tog* repeat to the end of the round.  9 (10, 10, 11) sts.

Break yarn, thread through remaining stitches, and fasten off. If you want to put a pom-pom on top, then leave about 25 cm/10 inch tail to attach it.  Weave in any loose ends.
