All-Over Eyelets Top

There is a very similar sweater on ravelry, however the pattern is written in the language i don't understand. I loved that top so much that i had to make one for my daughter! So i pulled out my book with lace stitches and created my own pattern from scratch. And here it is....

Materials:

Yarn: 3 balls Lara from Elann.com (color:crimson)
4mm circular needles (80 cm and 60 cm)
3mm circular needles (60 cm and 40 cm)
Markers

Gauge: 25 sts per 4 inches
Size: 2-3 years old

Method:

Cast on 240 sts using 4 mm needles (i used 80 cm ones)
Place marker, join in a round. Be very careful not to twist the stitches.
Knit one round.
Next round knit 2 stitches together all the way to the end of the round (120 sts).
Switch to 4mm needles (60 cm)
Knit for 8 more rounds.
Switch to 3 mm circular needles (60 cm) and knit for another 10 rounds.

Start the pattern:

Rnd1: k3, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k5* , continue * to last 7 sts. K2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2.
Rnd2-4: knit
Rnd5: k1, *yo, ssk, k5, k2tog, yo, k1*, continue * to the end
Rnd6-8: knit

Continue knitting in pattern until piece measures 10-12 inches from the cast on (i like to make tops for my daughter long in hopes she will wear them next year, so it is 12 inches from the underarm to the cast on).
Now place another marker 60 sts away from the first marker.
On the last knit row, bind off 3 sts before the first marker,3 sts after the first marker, then knit to the last 3 sts before second marker, bind off 6 sts (3 befor emarker, 3 after), knit to the end.
Now the back and the front of the top will be worked separately. Each side should have 54 sts.

Front:

Continue working in pattern as before (keep in mind that knit rounds 2-4 and 6-8 before will be purl, knit, purl rows now).
Bind off 1 sts at each end every other row (50 sts)
Keep working in pattern till armhole measures 2.5 inches.
On the knit row(rs), knit 20, bind off 10, knit 20.
Start neckline shaping.
Working in pattern, decrease 1 st at each neck edge every row for 5 rows.
Then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row till you have 10 sts left.
Knit next few rows till the armhole on each side measures 5 inches.
Bind off.

Back:

Continue working in pattern as before (keep in mind that knit rounds 2-4 and 6-8 before will be purl, knit, purl rows now).
Bind off 1 sts at each end every other row (50 sts)
Keep working in pattern till armhole measures 4 inches.
On the knit row(rs), knit 15, bind off 20, knit 15.
Start neckline shaping.
Working in pattern, decrease 1 st at each neck edge every row for 5 rows (10 sts)
Knit next few rows till the armhole on each side measures 5 inches.
Bind off.

The top should be ~15-17 inches long from the shoulder seams to the cast on.

Putting together:

Sew the shoulder straps together.
Using 3 mm circular needles (40 cm), and right side facing pick up 57 st evenly along the armhole. Place marker, and work in seed or garter stitch for 6 rounds. Bind off loosely.
Repeat with the second armhole.
Using same needles, and right side facing pick up 70 sts evenly along the neckline. Place marker, and knit for 5 rounds.
Next round, knit 7, make 1.... to the marker (80 sts)
Knit for 2 rounds.
Next round, knit 8, make 1...to the marker (90 sts)
Knit for 2 rounds.
Next round, knit 9, make 1...to the marker (100 sts)
Knit 1 round.
Bind off loosely.

Weave in any loose ends.

Done!

  1. I made this in red for my then three year old. It warmed my heart when she chose to wear it again and again - so now I am almost done with a second one in purple with two fancy metallic yarn stripes at the bottom. Thanks for the great pattern!

  3. "Now place another marker 60 sts away from the first marker."

Umm . . . the directions above are confusing because there are no instructions for placing the FIRST marker!!

    Can you clarify?

  5. I really love this pattern! But.... I do not understand the shortforms because I come from Germany an I´ve got no idea, what ssk and yo are meaning. I hoped, maybe you could explain them to me, so my daughter also could get a beautiful top like that.
