Materials:

4, 6, 7 balls of Mission Falls 1824 cotton (color 406)
4 mm circ needles (40 cm and 60 cm)
5 mm circ needles (60 cm)
stitch markers

Gauge: 18 sts per 4 inches on 5 mm needles.

Note: This dress is knit in a round for most part. . It is shown here for age 2, and the dress is 18'' long.

make 1 stitch (m1) = knit into the stitch bellow.

Sizes available:

1-2T (19-21 inch chest)
3-4T (21-23 inch chest)
5-6T (23-25 inch chest)

Method:


Cast on 72 (80, 88) sts, using 4 mm needles.
Join in around, place marker.
First 2 rounds work in 2x2 rib, starting with 2 purls (ie purl 2, knit2)
Next round *purl 2, knit 6*, continue * to the end of the round.
Repeat this round one more time.
Next 4 rounds work in 2x2 rib again, starting with 2 purls.
Next round purl2, *knit 2, purl 6*, continue * to the end of the round.
Repeat last round one more time.
Next 4 rounds are worked again in 2x2 rib, starting with 2 purls.
Knit
*Knit2, yarn over*, continue * to the end of the round (108, 120, 132 sts)
Knit for the next 6 (10, 14) rounds.
Switch to 5 mm needles and loosely bind off  16 (20, 22) sts, knit 39 (41, 45) sts, bind off 16 (20, 22) stitches, knit 37 (39, 43) stitches.

Here we are going to knit front and back separately for a bit to shape the armhole. I am giving instructions for a front piece first. Leave the sts for a back piece either on a spare set of needles or a stitch holder.

Front:

Knitted 37 (39, 43) stitches are going to be the front.
Row 1(WS): purl.
Row 2, 6(RS): knit.
Row 3, 5 (WS): knit
Row 4 (RS):  purl 1, *yarn forward, purl 2 together*, continue * to the end of the row.


Row 7 (WS): purl
Row 8 (RS): knit
Repeat last 2 rows 1 (2, 3) more times.
WS: knit
RS: purl 1, *yarn forward, purl 2 together*, continue * to the end of the row.
WS: knit
RS: knit
WS: purl

Back:

Now we are going to work on a back piece.
Join yarn and purl a row.
Knit in stockinette stitch for 14 (16, 18) more rows. All together the back is also worked over 15 (17, 19) rows.

Join back and front for knitting in the round again. To do so after you knit last row on a back piece, cast on 3 (5, 7) sts , start knitting the front piece, cast on 3 (5, 7) sts and on to a back piece again. Place marker and continue knitting in around in stockinette stitch till the piece measures about 6 (7, 9)'' from the underarm.
Evenly increase 10 sts.
1) Knit for 10 rounds.
2) Do another even 10 sts increase.
Repeat 1&2  2 more times.
For size 3-4 and 5-6, repeat 1&2 till desired length minus 2 inches.
Continue knitting in stockinette st till dress measures about 16 '' from cast on.
Rnd1: purl
Rnd2: purl 1, *yarn forward, purl 2 together*, continue * to the end of the row.
Rnd3: purl
Rnd4-7: knit
Knit last 7 rounds in moss stitch.
Bind off.
At this point the dress measures about 18'' form a cast on for 1-2T size.

Sleeves:

Pick up 48 (52, 56) sts along the armhole and knit them in 2x2 rib for 4 rounds, bind off.
